From coffee stains to genetic discoloration, injury-darkened teeth to root canal dullness, our whitening treatments offer real results for stubborn stains. We offer both in-office treatments and take-home kits that fit your schedule and needs. Your brighter smile is ahead.

Professional take-home whitening

A convenient and effective way to rid your smile of stains, our professional take-home kits offer custom-fitted trays for a one-of-a-kind whitening experience. Professional-strength whitening gel allows for gradual, safe whitening. Boost your confidence and improve your smile, all from the comfort of your own home.

In-office laser whitening

Ideal for sensitive teeth, this in-office treatment uses a gentle laser and protective gel, instead of highly abrasive ingredients often found in other whitening pastes. Highly effective, teeth can whiten up several shades. In-office treatments are the quickest and easiest way to a more radiant smile.

In-office non-laser whitening

For non-sensitive patients, this in-office treatment is designed for the everyday patient to the toughest cases. This option prioritizes ease and comfort and can be combined with at-home whitening or pre-whitening treatments for the most difficult or stubborn cases, such as stains caused by tetracycline antibiotics and developmental issues.

Internal whitening for root-canal-treated teeth

Whiten discolored teeth from the inside out with this quick and effective treatment. These treatments will gradually brighten teeth darkened by root canals with an internally sealed gel. Once the desired shade is achieved, the tooth will be permanently sealed with a tooth-colored composite filling that matches the new shade.

Teeth Whitening FAQs

Do over-the-counter (OTC) whitening treatments work?
All products work to some degree, but OTC whitening treatments are less potent than professional treatments, may take longer to show results, and results may not last as long, costing you more out of pocket. Over-the-counter products, when not used properly, can also cause gum irritation or sensitivity. Whitening toothpastes are notoriously abrasive and scratch enamel surfaces. While effective at removing external stains, this may leave your teeth rough and prone to even more stain.

Is professional teeth whitening safe for my enamel?
Yes, professional whitening is safe and does not damage enamel when done properly, as our professional treatments are free from abrasive ingredients found in OTC treatments. At Montrose Dental Wellness, we take additional steps to ensure the brands we use help decrease sensitivity and allow for the most effective whitening treatment.

What teeth-whitening treatment is best for me?
At Montrose Dental Wellness, we offer a variety of treatments to meet each patient’s individual goals and needs. During your visit, you and Dr. Horkan can discuss your whitening goals and unique preferences to determine the best approach for you. Whether your concern is basic coffee stains or more difficult discoloration caused by root canals, developmental issues, or previous medication use, Montrose Dental Wellness has you covered.

How long do results last?
As with most treatments, individual results may vary. Patient-specific factors, like frequency of coffee or dark liquid intake, how much whitening is done, daily oral hygiene, smoking, and how dark your teeth are to begin with, all play a role in your final results. More difficult staining may require more frequent maintenance whitening than in basic cases. When you whiten with Montrose Dental Wellness, you’ll experience a brighter smile for longer.

Is tooth sensitivity normal?
Yes, temporary tooth sensitivity and gum irritation may occur after treatment, but typically only lasts a day or two.

What should I avoid after whitening?
It’s best to avoid staining agents like coffee, tea, red wine, dark sauces, spirulina, turmeric, and tobacco for 48-72 hours after your treatment to allow the enamel to stabilize. Avoiding these products long term can help maintain results even longer.

Will it work on crowns, veneers, or fillings?
Unfortunately, no. Crowns, veneers, and fillings will not change color, as whitening treatments only work on natural teeth. However, many patients elect to update their crowns, fillings, or restorations if whitening is not done prior to harmoniously blend colors and give them a smile they love.
